Chicago's Graduation Party Venue in West Town

Planning a memorable graduation party starts with finding the right venue — and the right venue is one that disappears into the celebration. A graduation marks one of the few moments in life with a clear before and after, and the space you choose sets the tone for how friends, family, and the guest of honor actually experience that milestone.

The Fulton West is a private loft venue in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, at 319 N. Western Avenue, a short drive from any neighborhood in the city. It's a single-level space with high ceilings, an open floor plan, and a private patio strung with cafe lights — a feel no restaurant buyout or hotel ballroom can replicate. No shared restrooms, no 10 p.m. cutoff, no other events in the building.

“A graduation is one of the milestones we built this space for,” says Tionna Van Gundy, owner of The Fulton West. “Whether it’s a family dinner or a 75-person cocktail party, the space gives you the room to actually celebrate — not just fit in.”

The venue handles high school, college, graduate school, and professional certifications equally well. The guest list spans generations at most graduation gatherings, and the layout gives everyone somewhere to land — a comfortable spot for grandparents to sit, room for friends and family to catch up over food and drinks, and a patio for photos.

A Private Chicago Loft Built for Graduation Parties

The Fulton West is 3,000 square feet of single-level event space that holds 10 to 75 guests. Tables, chairs, and a curated furniture layout are included with every booking, no rental company coordination required. The room is built around high ceilings, an open plan, and clean white walls that photograph well without competing with your decor. Natural light carries the space through early evening.

The open layout and the clean backdrop make graduation photos easy — the kind of setting where every picture looks intentional rather than accidental.

The Patio

The private outdoor patio is strung with cafe lights and seats a small group — about eight to ten people — so it works as a place to step outside, grab a photo, or let a conversation spread out rather than as a second room. It's available for the full rental period.

What’s Included in Your Graduation Party Rental

We offer packages that take care of the basics so you can focus on celebrating. Every rental includes exclusive use of the full venue, both indoor and outdoor spaces, for your rental window. There are no other events in the building during your booking. Tables and chairs are set up to your preferred layout, a PA system and Bluetooth speaker are available throughout the space, and Wi-Fi is included. Teardown and cleanup are handled by the venue after you leave; you don’t need to manage it.

Food, Drink, and Catering

The Fulton West is a BYOB venue, and you’re welcome to bring in a licensed caterer of your choice. Choose the food and service style that fits your crowd — a plated dinner, a buffet, a grazing spread, light bites and drinks. The venue has a catering staging area with a refrigerator and counter space, so your vendor has everything they need on the day without improvising. If you’re still looking for a caterer, the preferred vendors page lists vendors the team works with regularly — people who know the space and deliver good food on the day.

Getting There

Parking is available on surrounding blocks, and several paid lots are within a short walk — easy to find and close enough that out-of-town guests won’t need to plan around it. The venue is accessible by CTA — the Pink and Green lines stop nearby — and rideshare drop-off is straightforward from the one-way street out front. For guests coming in from the suburbs, it’s an easy drive with no tolls on the most direct routes.

How to Plan Your Chicago Graduation Party

Location and Access

The Fulton West is at 319 N. Western Avenue in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, a part of the city most graduation guests already know how to get to. There's free street parking on Fulton Street and Western Avenue, and I-90/94 and I-290 are accessible without going through downtown traffic. For guests coming from the suburbs or from out of town, the location is easy to reach from home and central enough to work for any direction.

When to Book

Whether you're looking at a May graduation, a June ceremony, or a winter quarter finish, the time to book a venue is earlier than most families expect. For spring graduation parties, the planning window gets tight by February — caterers, photographers, and DJs all book around the venue date, so choosing the right venue first keeps everything else on track. Let the venue date anchor your planning, and the rest of the big day falls into place. December and winter graduations have significantly more flexibility.

Other Events at The Fulton West

The Fulton West is also a great place to host holiday parties and birthday and party celebrations around the same milestone season — some families want to celebrate the graduation and the grad's birthday in separate gatherings, both at the same venue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many people can The Fulton West accommodate for a graduation party? A: The Fulton West holds 10 to 75 guests. The open-plan loft layout means the space flows naturally between mingling areas and seating which is exactly what a graduation party guest list, spanning multiple friend groups and three generations of family, needs.

Q: Can I bring outside catering and alcohol to The Fulton West?

A: Yes. The Fulton West is a BYOB venue, and you’re welcome to bring in a licensed caterer of your choice. The venue has a staging area with a refrigerator and counter space for your vendor. If you’re still looking for a caterer, the preferred vendors list includes options the venue has worked with directly. Alcohol is permitted for guests of legal drinking age. You’re responsible for providing it and for ensuring responsible service.

Q: How far in advance should I book a graduation party venue in Chicago?

A: For May and June graduations, the busiest window of the year, we recommend reserving at least three to four months in advance. Venue availability in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood fills quickly in spring. For summer, fall, or winter graduations, there’s typically more flexibility, but booking earlier still gives you more options for preferred dates and rental windows.

Q: What’s included in a venue rental at The Fulton West?

A: Every rental includes exclusive use of the full venue (no other events in the building), tables and chairs set up to your preferred layout, a PA system and Bluetooth speaker, Wi-Fi, access to the private patio, and a post-event cleaning fee. The venue does not provide catering, alcohol, or décor. Those come from you and your vendors. A complete inclusions list is confirmed at booking.

Q: What is the graduation party venue rental cost?

A: Rental rates at The Fulton West vary depending on the date, rental window length, and day of the week. Weekend evenings have different availability and pricing than weekday or daytime slots. The best way to get an accurate quote is to submit an inquiry with your date and approximate guest count — the team will respond with availability and a pricing breakdown.

Q: Does The Fulton West host both high school and college graduation parties?

A: Both — and graduate school, trade school, and professional certification celebrations too. The loft layout works well regardless of the milestone. Most graduation parties at The Fulton West mix casual and formal elements, and the space accommodates either. There’s no dress code and no event style the venue doesn’t accommodate, from a seated family dinner to a 75-person cocktail party with a DJ.
